Hi my name is Toni, and I just want to say thank you,
since I decided to go off the pill two months ago,
    to have another child.
Well i was already feeling hopeless and
decided to check the Internet for some ideas.
I ran into this web site and found lunar fertility and it
mentioned about the moon phase at the time of your
    birth can create spontaneous ovulation.
Well i thought it was almost the full moon
    (which I was born on)
and I decided well you never know.
And what do ya know I'm pregnant
only a couple of weeks but hey!!
It worked who would have known.
    Thankyou.
    Toni.....

I am 39. My husband and I were infertile for 5 years, no explanation, though I had all the symptoms of PCOS except cysts (I had been normal weight until the age of 28, rapidly gained 70 pounds, for instance.

I did the zone religiously for 6 months to get ready to do an IVF cycle. I lost 25 pounds and was still about 40 pounds overweight, but I looked and felt much better. The 6th month, right before planned IVF, I also walked outside every day and I took fish oil capsules.

9 months later, without IVF or ANY methods, Kyle was born after 5 years of infertility, trying EVERYTHING except IVF. You name it, we tried it, and nothing worked. We have joked that Kyle saved us $10,000 in IVF treatments by being kind enough to be conceived the month before we planned to do it!

You could have knocked us over with a feather when the pregnancy test came back positive!

Kyle is wonderful, BUT I gained 70 pounds in pregancy, I think it is hard to maintain a healthy pregnancy weight gain when you are PCOS. Kyle was worth every pound I gained, and he's healthy as a horse, but I had issues nursing as well. I am now starting OPTIFAST because I want to rapidly lose weight so we can try for baby number 2.

I am very confident that the zone and fish oil are what worked for me. Good luck!

  • It has been a long hard road (as I know that the rest of you are experiencing if you are on this website). I just wanted to take a minute and tell everyone my story. My husband and I had been married 1 year exactly when we started discussing having a child. We were not ready to start just yet but we wanted to go ahead and make some preparations. It was May 3, 1998 when we had our first discussion about starting our family. I went to the GYN for a routine yearly exam and to discuss starting our family on Dec 15, 1998. Everything looked great. I had never had any problems in the past. They did some blood tests and found out that I didn't have the Rubella enzymes that I needed to have so I had to get a booster shot. That meant that we had to wait a couple of months to start trying. We finally started trying to have a child in June 1999. Everything was going great. My cycles came right on time.

Then in September 1999, while on vacation, I started noticing that everything I smelled was making me sick. Even doughnuts (which I dearly love) would make me want to gag. Then I missed my period. I was a week late when I took my first home pregnancy test. I was just sure that it was going to be positive since I had never had any problems. But it came up negative. I figured I would start that day but my period never came. Another week went by and nothing. I called the doctor and scheduled an appointment. I still just knew that I was pregnant. But unfortunately the doctor didn't seem to agree with me. I was not pregnant and they had to give me something to make me start.

October came and went without and delay in my cycle but them came November and nothing again. I was a little more calm this time but hoped again that the tests were wrong. I never had a period again until January 2000. At that time they put me on Clomid. And the doctor said, "Oh, you will be pregnant within 3 months." Those 3 months came and went along with another 6 months. I was on Clomid for 9 months with no luck. They suggested I see a fertility specialist but I was right in the middle of changing jobs and I knew that this was no time to be starting this new process. We took the rest of the year off (which I would recommend to anyone who has been trying for some time.) That made a world of difference.

In January 2001 we had our first appointment with the Reproductive Specialist. My husband had been tested twice and one showed low sperm count and the other showed normal sperm counts. They redid every test that had already been done on either of us. They found more things wrong with us than I care to count. I had: Insulin resistance, thyroid disease, and PCOS. My husband's count was fine but he has antisperm antibodies which were causing the swimmers to swim in circles. The doctor said that the best option would be IVF which we knew that we couldn't afford and our insurance didn't cover a bit of it.

We went back to talk to the doctor in February. We discussed options that were less costly including IUI. He said that the chances weren't very good for this work (around 15-17%) but that he would be willing to try 3-4 times before we decided to move further. IUI #1. We trying 1 injection of follistim. We only had one follicle mature and it wasn't very good but my husband's count looked really good on the day of the insemination. We got very excited when my period didn't come. The doctor had given us a date to schedule a pregnancy test in his office if I didn't start. We scheduled the appointment and drove 1 1/2 hours to the doctor's office. When we got there, I ran to the bathroom and I had started (between the house and the office). We were heartbroken to say the least. We took a month off because we were going to be out of town (celebrating our 4 year anniversary).

May 23, 2000 my period came just on schedule. I went back to the doctor and was told that we needed to double the follistim this month. Now remember, insurance wasn't covering a dime. Two injections just meant twice the money. We go ahead and go for it one more time. We go back to the doctor for a check of my follicles. We had 15 good size follicles. They had to slow me down so that I wouldn't ovulate before my time. They gave me two more injectibles (Antagon and Repronex). The cost just keep going up. We decide that this is going to have to be our last time trying because we just can't afford to keep doing this. I gave myself 27 shots in about 10 days. I go back to the doctor for my last check before the insemination. We have 3 matured eggs (sizes 26, 25, 24, and 19 which could have matured before the insemination). My husband was scheduled to be out of town when they wanted to do the insemination so they had to freeze his sperm.

I go in for the insemination on June 6th. My parents went to the doctor with me for support. When I go in, the doctor told me that everything looked good from my end but my husband's count was really low this time. They wanted 8-20 million but only got 5 million. He said that was borderline whether we did the procedure or not but that he wanted to go ahead and try since my follicles looked so good. I tried not to think about for the next couple of weeks but then the time came. My period didn't come again when it was supposed to. The date came that the doctor told me to take the test on with nothing still. But I was convinced that I was not pregnant. I waited another couple of days but then went and bought yet another pregnancy test. I didn't even tell my husband because I didn't want him to get his hopes up. I hid the test while he was outside grilling dinner. I woke up the next morning at 1:00 dying to go to the bathroom but it hadn't been 3 hours since I had gone. I had to wait another 30 minut es at least. I couldn't go back to sleep but I did manage to wait until 1:45 to take the test. That pink line showed up immediately. I cried and cried. When I went back to bed, I work my husband up when I got in. He asked what was wrong and I told him that the test was positive. He said "What test?" I didn't even think that he didn't know I had picked up the test on my way home from work the day before. Then he cried right along with me.

I went to the hospital the next day for the bloodwork to confirm the pregnancy and my HCG levels were high but within range. My nurse called the next day to confirm my results and said "Don't be suprised if it's twins. Your count if awfully high." I have always wanted twins so that was music to my ears. We redid the blood test 4 days later and they counts were even higher. We go to the doctor on Wednesday for my first ultrasound and we will know then just how many we are having.

The moral of my story is........always remember that everything happens for a reason.
My husband and I closer now than we have ever been
and I know that it is because we have been through so much already.
Our family will be complete as soon as our little one(s) arrive.
I know that infertility is a hard thing to go through,
but God doesn't put us through anything that we can't handle.
Keep your faith in God strong and all will work out in the end.

well I wanted to share my success story
we have been ttc for 8 months
the past 2 with the use of clomid.
I got a positive blood test yesterday
and my ob put me on promtrium 100mg. per day.
    Baby dust to everyone
The trick is to try and relax the more you stress
the longer it seems to take.
