AFTER 15 MOS., 2 M/C, 2 IUI, IT'S ++++++++++++++++++++++(m, long)
After 2 miscarriages, 15 months of ttc,
6 months of infertility treatment,
2 iui's, and *low* sperm count,
we have success!
I want to offer hope to the hopeless.
We were beginning to think that we might
not get pregnant at all!
My husband is 43, I'm 31,
and he has been married before,
but with no children in 10 years.
After he told me that he had low sperm count,
you can't believe how surprised
we were to actually be pregnant last May
(5 months of ttc). That happiness was not to last
long, I miscarried at 6 weeks (I was supposed to be
due on my husband's birthday, January 28).
Our next miscarriage was in September at 5 weeks.
At that point we found an infertility specialist.
They checked and found out that my progesterone
was low! So I went on Crinone to try to support
any possible pregnancy.
She also did more blood work and found that I
had slightly elevated antiphospholipid antibodies
which prevent the embryo from receiving the
nutrition it needs from the uterus.
Ladies---this is the reason
for taking your baby aspirin every day.
When we had no luck with the aspirin and Crinone,
she suggested that we get my dh's sperm count done
again. They hadn't done it right away,
since we had conceived naturally.
It was low! She suggested that with low sperm count
and my problems, the best answer was IUI.
I took 100mg Clomid and then Repronex,
followed by the ultrasound and the hcg shot,
then insemination. Everything went beautifully
the first time--two eggs spotted on the ultrasound,
decent sperm volume--but with NO results,
I was so disheartened.
Our second IUI--
everything that could go wrong did!
The ultrasound turned up no eggs on one ovary,
and she couldn't find the other one!
She just took a shot at it! Then, you
won't believe this, my husband likes to
fool around before he has to give the
sample to make it easier--well
things just went a little too far and he
ejaculated less than an hour before
we had to go in for his sample!
It was really hard (pardon the pun)
to get another sample from him,
but it finally came out (again, pardon the pun).
I just knew this one was a wash!
I went in 7dpo and my progesterone was in
the acceptable range, but I just waited
to get my period, I even ordered the drugs
for the next round of IUI. 14dpo with no Aunt Flo
showing I took an hpt, I nearly passed out,
it was +, I rushed up to my husband's work and showed him,
he wanted to wait for the blood test,
which I had yesterday, so far everything is a go!
However, I am terrified of losing another one.
I just don't think I can take that again!
Over the last few months,
my dh's sperm count continued to improve,
I'm not sure if it is completely attributable,
but he was taking the Dr. Wallach vitamins and minerals,
and dh is even an insulin-dependent diabetic.
I haven't been around much lately,
it was hard seeing the names add up and scroll by every week,
but as I said, I want to offer hope.
Keep informed, keep trying, keep after your doctor,
keep asking questions and pressing them to get
what you want and deserve.
God bless you all on your journey
as I hope that I may continue on mine!
