I know this question about clomid
has been asked 100 times.
Here's 101.

On Sunday I start 100mg of clomid.
What can I expect?
Here's what I've heard:
some women experience no side effects,
but that is fairly rare; some women get hot
flashes; some women have very painful ovulation;
some women see their cm dry up.
Anything I've missed? And for those who see
their cm dry up, is it just the external cm?
Is cm there if one milks the cervix,
or is it absent? In which case,
doesn't this make for a hostile environment
for the swimmers?
I've heard about using egg whites,
but I'm not too keen on that.
Anything else that's acceptable?
I want to hear stories from
lots of happy clomid customers.
Laurie/Malapert (cd28, day 2 provera...no O - AGAIN!)
Well, I don't know about me being a happy user but...(m)
I started 100 mg of Clomid on Tuesday.

I've been on 6 or 7 cycles of Clomid,
from 50 mgs up to 200mgs.
This cycle, I'm on to 250 mgs(the highest).
I haven't gotten a sucessful O on Clomid yet.
I didn't really notice anything
I could say was definately side-effects
until I reached the 150mgs doseage.
Then, I noticed headaches, tired eyes,
and lots of hot flashes.
Here's hoping it works first cycle for you!!
I started 100 mg of Clomid on Tuesday.
I haven't noticed anything yet, except both yesterday (Wed.)
and today I have been feeling tired even a little down,
and a little nauseaus.
Haven't decided if it's the Clomid or not,
but the info sheet my pharmacy gave me listed fatigue
and nausea. However, my RE JUST called,
as I was typing and I asked her about side effects.
She said that it's possible that the symptoms
are from my body adjusting to the Clomid, but
it's sounds more like a bug . . .
the tiredness and nausea are more common
side effects after O. She said the CM drying up
happens in about 25% of women taking Clomid and that
Robitussin can help,
but it doesn't dry you up completely.
Hope it helps, let me know

Hi Lizzy, I was successful after three
rounds of clomid
The first round I experienced painful ovulation
to the point that I went to see my ob/gyn in a panic.
I still do not know why that happened
because the second round was just fine.
No side effects at all! The third one was the charm!
I noticed a ton of EWCM on conception day
so don't worry about using egg whites!
I did take Vitex and drank green tea.
Good luck!!

Check out the INCIID Over 40 board and ask the
women over there. Maybe they can help answers your
"Effects on Women over 40"!
Good luck and keep us posted!!!

I just finished my 5-day regimen of Clomid.
I was only on 50 mgs. though.
I experienced no hot flashes, maybe some mild
nausea (we were all kind of sick around here anyway
so it was hard to tell). I did, however,
really notice some O pains.
More than usual. I haven't actually O'd yet,
I'm on cycle day 12, and I'm seeing the signs,
but I definitely felt something going on in there
the last two days I was taking the clomid.
I don't think it was my imagination, either!
Now I'm just waiting and obsessing even worse than usual!
Bottom line - taking it was a piece of cake,
and I was really worried beforehand
(I'm very drug-a-phobic).
Hope this helps -

Clomid after effects
I took clomid last month and it looks like it has
some how "rebooted" my cycle
a)I got my period w/o any of annoying spotting beforehand
b)I'm not seeing the midcycle beelding i usually get
w/ovulation. Can anyone else validate this?

I'm a happy customer! (m)
Hi Lizzie!
I did one round of 100mg of clomid and
the only side effect I seemed to have was slightly
blurred vision. It started about 2 days in
and disappeared about 2 days after I stopped the
pills. I must have had a really good O that cycle because
I was pretty crampy before O and after too.
I also had an IUI. I hope it works wonders for you!!
It was just the ticket for me!

Calling All Clomid Success Stories
Help! I need some success stories!
This is my first month on Clomid.
I'm taking 50mg. day 5-9 and hoping and praying
like never before, but I need to hear some inspiring stories.
This TTC journey is longer than I ever expected!
Thanks!
Micki
That would be me:-)
It did take 4 50mg cycles.

There are several on the Alumnae board
who were helped by Clomid also.
Good Luck & get ready for the hotflashes!!

Hey Micki we were on clomid got pg the second month
unfortunately it didn't work out but I'll be...
going back on it as soon as I get my next period.
Don't get freaked out about taking this drug
it is a miracle if you don't ovulate
it really helped me out not only with Oing
but with mood swings as well.
My unfortunate misscarriage was a blighted ovum
and a freak of nature as so it's been called,
but so may ladies on the alumnae board
have had many successul pg's and beautiful babies.
Clomid will help you out give it at least
three months of not sooner!
Good luck to you I will be joining the clomid club
again as soon I get my period I hope you are pg by then!

Hi Micki,
I too was looking for success stories to keep me going!
I totally understand! I was so excited
to start clomid because my cycles were so wacked out!
I was successful on the third cycle.
I must admit my stress levels for trying to conceive
went way up when starting clomid
and I found some refuge here at the TTC site.
So try to be kind to yourself.
I know it's hard, but just try!
For the first two cycles it looked as if
I was O'ing on day 19.
The third cycle I must have O'd on day 32.
That shows you that even on clomid my cycles were weird!
It is probably a very good idea to temp during clomid!
I also took Vitex and drank green tea.
Good luck, Micki!!!
Love,
Heather
I am an success!!!!
I was on clomid 100mg days 5-9.
Got pregnant the 1st month I was on it!!!!!
I did not have anything other then being a little crabby.
I think what also helped, is that I had great EWCM from EPO,
and we DTD whenever I had CM,
I also used a butt pillow
( prop yourself up sfterwards)
and layed for 30 minutes - 1 hour.
The other thing that worked was that
DH helped me orgasm while I was laying there,
I have been told that it helps the swimmers
swim upstream faster.
Well it worked, we had been trying for 23 cycles.
I wish you the best of luck!!!
MC
I'm taking the same dosage and days as you :)
i am also a little nervous and excited
and anxious to start...
we can compare notes (and symptoms) :)
JulieC 32 years old, ttc#1, cd1, cycle 9
Got pg w/ #1 on 1st cycle of clomid and same with #2,
but m/c...but don't be alarmed.
We were told it had nothing to do with the clomid,
just wasn't the time for that little one.
We're now waiting on af,
so we can try again.(and we will be using clomid!!!)

This is my first month too! (m)
I am taking 100mg days 6-10 (today is day 10).
So far, other than slightly higher bbts,
I seem to be following my normal cycle.
I am praying we get PG this month,
cause next month we move on
the Clomid + injectibles and IUI.
Here's hoping for both of us!!

Is there a shot that the doctor will give to stimulate ovulation?
In Response:
There are lots of available injectable gonadotropins that can be used to stimulate follicle development
(Humegon, Follistim, Gonal-F, etc). These administered daily, under close supervision, until the follicles
are of the appropriate size. Then, an injection of hCG is given, to trigger release of the eggs from the
follicles.
In some women whose folicles develop on their own, hCG may be given to trigger egg release. Also, it is
sometimes used in women taking Clomid, usually to better time inseminations since ovulation usually
occurs about 36 hours after the injection.

HCG
Don't know if you have to be on clomid to get it, but yes, once they know you have a mature follicle,
they'll often give 10,000mg of HCG to release.
Posted by Chrissy:
Is that what the ultrasound is for...to see if you have a mature follicle?
Posted by Elizabeth
Yes. Usually, they are considered mature when they are greater than 18mm in size.

15 years ago I had Clomid, at the time I was 23 yrs old.
Clomid worked for me on the 3rd dosage (100mg).
We had a girl.
Then 10 years later we tried again
but this time Clomid didn't work,
but it must have jumped started my system into having O
and periods because 6 months later I got pregnant w/out
using anything and we had a boy. Now I'm trying again,
just had a miscarriage two weeks ago and got pregnant unexpectedly.
The Dr. put on 50mg of Clomid to try.
I'm 37 now and a bit scared because of my age.

Hi there,
I have a question about when to take clomid and
when not to take vitex.
I know you suggest that we not take clomid and vitex
at the same time. Is it ok to take vitex on the
days we are NOT taking clomid? I just finished my
50mg of clomid this month and would like to resume
taking the vitex. What would you suggest?
Thanks.
Hi Amy
I would suggest waiting at least 5 days AFTER
your last clomid pill before starting vitex.
I do think it is a good idea to supplement your cycle
with vitex especially after taking clomid.
Hope this helps
Love and eggly thoughts :o}

Hi Momma Kath,
I guess I wasn't sure I would get through to you,
but now that I know I can,
I have to tell you how much I love your site.
It has gotten me through some really difficult times.
I love reading the stories about all of us who are
struggling with trying to conceive and those who
have!! Thank you so much for your help and your strength.
I will start the vitex again on cd 14.
I had never had a period on my own until I started
the vitex. One month after starting it we got pregnant!!!
Unfortunately, we lost the baby but thanks to you
and all the friends at ttc, and of course many prayers,
I have SLOWLY recovered. We are back in baby mission mode
and I am trying to stay positive.
Thank you for all that you have given to all of us-
you are the best!!
Love,

After trying to get pregnant for a year,
it took me only one month on clomid to conceive.
Good Luck to you all.
Thanks for all the support via success stories.

Hello,
My name is Lori, and unfortunately,
I am a "http://www.tryingtoconceive.com/clomid user".
Sounds like I belong at a meeting!
I like the rest of you, have been
unable to conceive for a year,
and being 36, the Dr. put me on Clomid
after all the other lovely tests we had to go through.
Last month I started days 3-7, and was told I'd experience
the hot flashes, dizziness etc. Well, I apparently defy
all odds when it comes to medicine, because I had nothing
except painful ovulation. So...what this month?! Up the
Clomid to 2X a day...yippee! Now I get to experience hot flashes,
AND painful ovulation. This better work, I'm getting more dissapointed
as each month passes. I must admit, I already have 3 children, and all
of them only took 3 months AT THE MOST to conceive. This is really throwing
me, I thought I was "fertile Myrtle" Guess age has a lot to do with it.
Good luck to everyone on this!
I hope it works for you all, including me!

I just wanted to say that this is a fabulous site for people going through
infertility treatment. I have now completed my first cycle of clomid
treatment, actually I am going for my pregnancy test tomorrow. Having now
read other peoples experiences has been great. The information that was
given to me at the hospital is very clinical and doesn't really give you an
accurate idea of how you will feel and react to clomid.
I think I've been
pretty lucky in the sense that I didn't get any really bad side effects,
just a little cranky and maybe a little depressed but I'm over that now.
There is one thing that I am doing that others have not mentioned in their
emails, which is too bad. I was also put on estrogen suppositories to
increase my uterine lining and then added progesterone suppositories as well
to keep the lining healthy and willing to except a fertilised egg.
This is
probably the worst part of the experience so far. I'd love to hear how
others have coped with these suppositories and their messiness and how it
has effected their bodies (good or bad). If you have any information on
this part of the infertility process please let me know.
thank you very very much,
Jenn

I was diagnosed with PCOS 7 years ago. After being on Clomid for 1 month at
50mg, I conceived my daughter who is now 5 yrs old. I've been on Clomid for 3
months again now, and no luck yet. I am lucky enough to not experience any of
the side effects that are sometimes associated with Clomid.
We did IUI this month and are praying for a miracle! It hasn't worked as quickly this time,
but it is a wonderful drug that has answered a lot of prayers for many women!
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Just got my prescription for Clomid this morning. I was a little scared
about taking it but feel better after reading all of the messages. I am not
looking forward to all of the tests you have to do while on the drug but I
guess they are a means to an end. Good luck to everyone.
